WHY
broadband?
Broadband can really make a difference
to people living, studying and working in this
area whether you use the internet for personal,
educational or business purposes.
Broadband benefits include:
- Broadband is typically at
least 10 times as fast as an ordinary
modem.
- Your telephone line is no
longer tied up because someone is using
the internet.
- Broadband provides an
"always on" internet
connection.
- There is great concern
that without broadband, rural areas will
be left behind by a "digital
divide"? (71% of the country is
already served by a broadband-enabled
telephone exchange).
- Businesses can benefit
from broadband's fast internet access.
- Another advantage is that
it allows a person to work from home with
fast access to his employer's network.
- The latest internet
applications (e.g. digital radio, video,
games, ...) are not possible without a
high speed connection
- Fast download of large
files such as digital photos, multimedia,
etc.
- Information on websites
and software updates are increasingly
growing in size - it's assumed that most
people have broadband.
- In the housing market,
it's becoming a negative factor to move
to an area without broadband.
Use
of the internet at present is severely restricted
by the bottleneck of the telephone connection:
getting broadband is a bit like changing from
bottled water to a mains water supply.
